. . .For thousands of years, the wisdom of the Vedas has been passed on through Veda chant and the Guru's teaching. Now you are invited to join the class, following a step by step age-old method.

. . .The teacher chants each phrase, then the students repeat it twice. At first this is done slowly with short phrases. Later, as proficiency develops, fuller phrases are used and the tempo picks up. Somehow, this method speeds up the learning process amazingly.

Now YOU are invited to join in this ancient tradition.

. . .Each CD is a "class" with Sree Aswath, who began to learn Vedic wisdom and Sanskrit chanting at a very young age, in the traditional way, from his grandfather. In our times, the opportunity to study directly with a teacher (ideally with only one or two students at a time!) is becoming a rarity.

. . .Sree Aswath has given freely of his time for recording, making the accompanying booklets and even translating when needed, to make these Sanskrit chants available through CDs for all those who desire to learn.

. . .Members of Sree Aswath's weekly "Veda Recitation Class" have volunteered as chanters to make these CDs possible. The beauty of their voices and the precision of their chanting are only the beginning. Their own spirituality and rapport with one another give these recordings the true quality of what it is like to be present in "class".

"I listened to the recitation. It is very good. I am amazed how you can get it done the way you do. I play it in the background of my poojaa every morning. The recitation is excellently timed with udaatta, anudaatta and svarita, and the unity of kaNTha (voices) in recitation produce perfect harmony. I have heard many padapaaTha-keyed recitations, but yours is uniquely distinct for the better."

-- Ramanath Sharma, Ph.D., Professor of Sanskrit and Linguistics at the University of Hawaii and author of a landmark six-volume treatise on Panini's Astadhyayi.

"I got all four CDs and they are great and I am listening and my wife was chanting until 11pm last night. I wanted to go to the Pathshala in India close to my home and tape the teachings because I could not find chanting CDs like you have. Your CD sound bites are excellent and you have put lot of efforts in this project and I am very thankful. I like to listen to Sanskrit chants in AM to calm me before I go to work."

Pediatrician, Allergist, and Author of Guide to Indo-American Parenting.

"We are very grateful for the CDs containing the chanting of Vedic hymns for 'distance learning' We are all fortunate that people like you are taking the Indian knowledge systems to all, this includes people of Indian origin in the US. The awareness about the heritage of Indian in general and Sanskrit in particular is rather low in India too. I am certain that your attempt to introduce Sanskrit and the Vedic thought through easy steps would benefit those who are lucky enough to seek them."
-- Professor Subramanian Swaminathan, Chennai, India.

Music/CD Review

For those interested in learning authentic Sanskrit, these recordings of Sanskrit classes are a rare privilege. Sree Aswath learned Sanskrit from a very young age from his grandfather in the ancient tradition of India. In these classes he recites each scripture one line at a time while four students (whose voices blend remarkably well) repeat the lines after him twice. Listening to these recordings gives you a true feeling of learning in the traditional manner from a Sanskrit adept.

The Ganapati Atharvasirsham, from the Atharva Veda, is devotedly recited by countless souls in India and abroad every day. This scripture expresses the sublime qualities of Sri Ganesha, considered to be the embodiment of OM and symbolic of creation.

The Kena Upanishad from the Sama Veda is one of the most analytical and metaphysical Upanishads, its purpose being to lead the mind from the gross to the subtle, from effect to cause.

The Ishavasya Upanishad is from the Yajur Veda and contains the well-known Peace Mantra, “Om purna-madah purna-midam…” Within the short span of eighteen verses this Upanishad gives a valuable mystical description of the Atman, the ideal sage who stands unruffled in all conditions and the doctrine of Karma-Yoga within its treatise.

Although the study of Sanskrit can take a lifetime and perfecting it has been lifelong devotion of many sages and scholars, reciting along with or merely listening to these recordings imparts the peace and blessings of these lofty scriptures.
